Guest Speaker: Kristin Haight, Executive Director of Kennebunkport Historical SocietyKristin Haight, Executive Director of the Kennebunkport Historical society, spoke to Kennebunk Portside Rotarians about the many events and activities the organization has planned for the year. She was excited to report that the society has formed a young person’s board to plan and implement activities of interest to children and teens. Kennebunk Portside Rotary donates a children’s book to one of the RSU 21 school libraries in honor of each speaker. Pictured here, Kristin inscribes the book, Just Ask, Be different, Be Brave, Be You by US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. It will be delivered to one of the district’s elementary schools. Kristin has written and published her own children’s book, “I like Maine Days: A beach bedtime story" in preparation for the birth of her first grandchild. |

Earth Day CleanupWe were out bright and early on Tuesday, 4/20 picking up trash at Colony Beach and along Ocean Ave in honor of Earth Day. Rather than our regular meeting we joined together (with masks and after many vaccinations) to get out in our community and boy did it feel good!! |
Million Mask Challenge - Second WaveRotary District Governor Peggy Belanger, and Portside Kennebunk Club member, met with other Rotary leaders to divide the second round of masks for distribution throughout the area. The Kennebunk Portside Club received over 1,000 masks for the second time and worked with Caring Unlimited, Kennebunkport EMS, and Kennebunkport Town Offices to distribute the masks to those most in need in our area. Club Distribution Coordinator Bob Wester commented, “Kennebunk Portside Rotary is proud to be part of the “second wave” of mask donations in our community! We need to work together to the beat this deadly virus.” |
Third Grade Receives DictionariesFor nearly more than 15 years, Kennebunk Portside Rotary club has donated dictionaries to every third grader in the Kennebunks. They are used in the classroom during the year and then they are owned by the student. Students take time to look up words, find meanings, and have fun with our language. Third grade is generally accepted as the time when students move from Learning to Read to Reading to Learn and this program helps support that change in these students lives. We were thrilled to have recently received thank you letters from individual students and classrooms! ![]() |
COIVD-19 UpdateOut of an abundance of caution and following recommendations from the CDC on social distancing, the Portside Rotary Club will be continuing to hold club meetings virtually for the foreseeable future. We will continue to evaluate options as the pandemic continues and find new and creative ways we can continue to serve the Kennebunkport community during these challenging times. The health and safety of our members and our community are our top priority. Take care of yourself and each other. |
Halloween Trail of TreatsWe were thrilled to join the Kennebunkport Parks and Rec Department to support families who were looking for a safer alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating. Saturday's event was a huge success thanks to so many organizations in our community. There were tricks, spooks, and a whole lot of treats! ![]() |

Message from President Sue GesingWelcome to Kennebunk Portside Rotary’s webpage. We are pleased that you stopped to take a look at who we are and what we do. We are medium sized club of about 25 members who live or work in Kennebunkport, Kennebunk and Arundel and are from many walks of life. We are business people, professionals, community leaders, and active retirees. We meet regularly to plan and take part in community service activities. Because we are an international organization, we also partner with other Rotary cubs to implement humanitarian projects around the world. |
